Welcome to Hartlepool Music society's 23rd season. This year we welcome both old friends and distinguished new visitors to Hartlepool Town Hall , where all of our concerts will take place.
When the pianist Ashley Wass played for us two years ago, a member of the audience wrote to the Hartlepool Mail to demand, “This man must come back”. Well, I agreed, and Ashley Wass begins our season on the 10 th October with a programme that includes Frank Bridge 's remarkable Piano Sonata, which he has just recorded for Naxos .
We follow this on the 26 th November with a concert by the Coull Quartet, which is the Quartet in residence at Warwick University . They will play Mozart and Beethoven for us as well as Smetana's extraordinary Quartet No. 1, “ From My Life ”.
Music Society members always look forward to piano recitals by Sarah Beth Briggs, who has probably given more concerts for Hartlepool Music Society than anyone else. Sarah Beth plays for us on 7th December. and her programme ranges from Bach to Bartok.
After our Christmas break, we entertain two of Austria 's most distinguished chamber ensembles. On the 6 th February 2008, the Aron Quartet will play a typically Viennese programme of Haydn, Schubert and Korngold (whose quartets they are currently recording). They are followed on the 10 th March by the Vienna Piano Trio, who are currently the Trio in residence in Vienna 's great Konzertaus, and who will play Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven for us in what should be one of the season's highlights.
Our final concert on the 9 th April, which is sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, is a recital by the rising young Australian pianist, Daniel de Borah, who has already given a Wigmore hall recital to great acclaim.
I look forward to seeing you at the concerts, and I hope you enjoy the season.
